4 AUGUST STARTING PHASE Between Rüttenscheid and South The new deephaus lounge on Witteringstrasse / corner of Brigittastrasse is a mix of restaurant, bar and lounge and aims to offer the perfect solution for long beautiful evenings, according to operator André Polan. Free! Natural wonder earth The blue planet is in danger: environmental pollution, overexploitation and overpopulation are affecting the world more and more. The photographer Markus Mauthe has traveled a lot and captured the beauty of the earth with his camera on behalf of Greenpeace. His multimedia show Naturwunder Erde runs on in Essen's Glückauf cinema; O'clock, free admission. MARKUS MAUTHE, GREENPEACE The Creepshow in Essen Phew, lucky that the date was on August 4th. in Don t Panic was not on the hit list. The Creepshow canceled their appearance at the Amphi Festival. The new album spontaneously lured her to her native Canada. In Essen they are back on time with horror and zombies in their luggage. Death At My Door is the latest work by the Psychobilly band; 12/15 (VVK / AK). THOMAS RABSCH GOP, SIMON BIERWALD Two magazines out of love for the region Together you are less alone. Actually, this is the title of a novel, but the sentence is also suitable if two city magazines with an affinity for culture decide to do something together with immediate effect. Heinz has on 1.7. packed his things in Essen and moved to Bochum under the umbrella of the coolibri-Verlag. In the future, we want to continue to publish two independent magazines as part of a team, which we hope will continue to inspire you for a long time to come: The Heinz magazine, which has lots of great event tips for the Ruhr area and the Bergisches Land, and the coolibri, which with its seven editions about each local corner in the Ruhr area and in the Düsseldorf area and, according to AWA 2016, has around readers. With this step towards a common future, we are not only bundling resources for the monthly production of the magazines, but also a wealth of experience that lasts until 1983 at coolibri and until 1991 at Heinz. We want to continue to be at your side as a competent companion when it comes to trends, tips and topics in our region. Josef Jasper Managing Director Kunst schräschschön From young to old, from cross to queer, from quiet to shrill: Tag Im Park, the genre-free art festival, presents more than 50 artists and groups in its third year. The dense program at von Uhr includes dance theater, puppet shows, action art, feminist reading work, performances and music, e.g. the Post-Kraut-Band Transport from Cologne, the beatboxing legend Jibel Jay from Essen and the Rrriot-Grrl-Band Muskatnuss from Mülheim. The venue is the Kaiser Wilhelm Park in Essen-Altenessen. Admission is free. Who is going to be a club? The 20-strong Schalke fan club Knappensturm from Mülheim was more than convenient for Ludger K. on the day of Tuchel, of all places. With the royal blues on his back and with the energetic assistance of the GOP Late Night Band, he challenged the Schalke-Dortmund gossip barometer at the iconic GOP Comedy Club in Essen at the end of May! Which guest club will look at the world political issues of the last few weeks with the Kamikaze moderator and his guests? Gym nurses or skat fans maybe? Work colleagues or a choir? If you want to be there, you can make your club palatable to us by email. HAMEDPHOTOGRAPHY.COM 04 HEINZ

20 What a line can boast! High Line Park Wuppertal It is time for one of the most beautiful railway lines converted into a cycle path to be celebrated as a stage for a large art and culture festival that shows the full range that Wuppertal and the surrounding area have to offer. With dance, theater and music, film and literature, with performances, installations and staged architecture. When the Nordbahntrasse becomes KulturTrasse on September 2nd, you will experience many former industrial buildings in a completely new light. Nothing has given the people of Wuppertal so much quality of life in recent years as the Nordbahntrasse. It not only makes the mountainous city much more suitable for cycling and allows city districts to move closer together, but also offers fantastic views. But the bridges high above the city were almost torn down. It is thanks to committed citizens that this did not happen. When the 23-kilometer-long rail line had been idle for 15 years, in 2006 they founded the Wuppertal Movement Association, acquired donations and helpers and managed to make the Nordbahntrasse what it is today: a prime example not only of great civic engagement, but also for the Structural change that the former textile center Wuppertal is just experiencing. When the Nordbahntrasse becomes the KulturTrasse on September 2nd, it will therefore connect many industrial monuments that have been converted into cultural sites. In addition, schools, churches, a skate hall, a container, four tunnels and a motorway bridge underneath are used. A total of more than 85 cultural events that take place this Saturday between the quarters of Vohwinkel, Mirker Viertel and Wichlinghausen: concerts, exhibitions, theater, dance, performances, films and readings. As extraordinary as the route, as outstanding as the performing artists, young as well as renowned ones, e.g. the Pina Bausch Tanztheater, Uncle Ho, the Brötzmann Trio, the Wuppertaler Bühnen and the cabaret artist Jens Neutag. Most events start on the hour. The length of the program parts is 40 to 60 minutes. This makes it easier to switch from one cultural site to another. Even before most of the events begin at 2 p.m., the Rollbeat caravan sets off from Vohwinkel train station to Wichlinghausen at noon: bikes and other vehicles follow a rickshaw on which a DJ mixes beats that are relevant to the route live. To be created for everyone, because a total of only 15 kilometers of the route are used. At midnight, a quarter speaker in each of the three quarters speaks up. He reads out what you always wanted to tell everyone, but didn't dare. But he can also announce that Martin Müller has a tea set to give away. Or he apologizes with a poem. Such messages, notifications and advertisements can be submitted in the following places: In the Mirke in front of the train station (parking lot side, middle of the building) there is an orange mailbox, another is in the old fire station. In Vohwinkel you use the mailbox of the public station. In Wichlinghausen, mail can be delivered to the district office (Tütersburg 4) or the dye works (Peter-Hansen- Platz 1). KulturTrasse 2017 is one of 13 key projects in the Wuppertal 2025 Strategies program for Wuppertal. With citizen participation, the city is taking measures to improve the quality of life for the residents and to facilitate the work of Wuppertal companies. The festival on the Nordbahntrasse is to take place once a year and become a stage for different cultural scenes in and outside of Wuppertal. A paper program, an online presence and a visitor guidance system help to keep track of things. The festival ticket à 14 (reduced 7) enables participation in all events and free travel by bus and train (VRR) on this day.It is available from Isabelle Reiff KULTURTRASSE 2017 Date: 2.9. from 12 noon, price: Festival ticket at 14/7 via raffle: 3x2 festival tickets at heinz-magazin.de 20 HEINZ

21 MIRKER BAHNHOF / UTOPIASTADT, PHOTO: ANTJE ZEIS-LOI Light art in 4 tunnels, cinema under the bridge At 85 meters, the Fatloh tunnel is the shortest tunnel on the northern railway line. It is located between the Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen and Wuppertal-Heubruch train stations. On September 2nd you have to enter it through a curtain. Behind it, visitors can expect Kai Fobbe's light installation, which is based on punched cards from the Kafka ribbon weaving mill in Wuppertal. The 351 meter long Rott tunnel is located between the Wuppertal-Rott stop and the Wuppertal-Loh train station. The space-time pirates transform it into a space-consuming multivision. It consists of optoacoustic instruments that are influenced by the movement of the visitors. A 171 meter long passage extends under the Engelnberg with the Ostersbaum residential area. Susann Helen Miller uses characters and words from graffiti found on the route as a template for fluorescent cave paintings. The tunnel under the Elberfelder Dorrenberg (photo) became a dance tunnel even before the construction of the northern railway line. Anyone who dances in it on the KulturTrassen Saturday will design the light art installation by Gregor Eisenmann. Jaebong Jung takes photos of the guests and also makes them part of the installation. The right place for a party is under the Varresbeck motorway bridge at the Deutscher Ring. Before that, horror films from Wuppertal are shown here. 16./ / PHOTO: ANTJE ZEIS-LOI Vohwinkel creates creative freedom The Wuppertal-Vohwinkel train station is the only train station on the Nordbahntrasse that can actually be reached by train. and in 2014 the KunstStation and the 5niche project by the sculptor Eckehard Lowisch on the station forecourt. On September 2nd, many more artists will let their creativity run free and thus do credit to the Detroit factor according to the motto vacancy is free space. For example, the artist collective RaumZeitPiraten has collected the most distinctive smells of Wuppertal and makes this distillate smell for everyone in the foyer of the KunstStation. The cabaret artists Jens Neutag and Jürgen H. Scheugenpflug let their bellies wobble in the small hall. Wuppertal research later becomes the topic of the Science Slam. In the large hall, the Jazzpension Gas is playing a 20-member big band from the Bergische Musikschule. She presents her broad repertoire from crisp funk numbers to heartfelt vocal ballads. Then you can hear Jonas David & the band. The thoroughbred musician contributed several pieces for the film Vaterfreuden by Matthias Schweighöfer and arranged a large part of the MTV Unplugged Set for the band Revolverheld. 22 There's a lot going on in the Mirke In the Mirker Viertel, committed Wuppertal residents have revived the railway building, which is threatened with decay, as a utopian real laboratory for creative and alternative urban development. This is where the heart of the KulturTrasse Festival is located: the large open-air stage with concerts by the Nujazz band Club des Belugas, the opera choir of the stages and the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra, which offers an exclusive foretaste of the new season's pieces. The gala is also the culmination of the theater festival of the Wuppertaler Bühnen, which this year joins the KulturTrasse. Whether mask, costume, prop or stage technology with numerous adventure stands, opera, drama and orchestra can be experienced up close and the actors are within reach. In the Mirke there are more and more places of culture that use old factories or abandoned workshops for theater, concerts or readings. In the immediate vicinity of the Mirk train station is the art space lifting platform in a former petrol station. Grimme Prize winner Jochen Rausch, the crime novelist Christiane Gibiec and the poetry slammer Sascha Thamm will ensure an interesting literary selection. Café Ada invites you to dance: from demonstrations to tango taster lessons, everything is included. The auditorium of the Hermann-von-Helmholtz-Realschule is the concert hall in the Mirker Viertel. The school's venue, which was renovated a few years ago, invites you to enjoy the finest chamber music under high stucco ceilings with excellent acoustics. The oldest boys' choir in the Rhineland also makes its rendezvous, and then Heather Leigh travels with her pedal steel guitar from Scotland especially for the KulturTrasse to perform with Peter Brötzmann and Toshinori Kondo. The nearby former Gold-Zack works are a relic of the Wuppertal textile industry and are now home to a bouldering hall with an adjoining café and the TalTonTheater. The successful private theater will present William Gibson's award-winning play Licht im Dunkel on September 2nd. The Theater im Cronenberg is a guest as Comedian Harmonists, and Wuppertal's mayor Andreas Mucke, who is affectionate with the stage, plays in a play about the unlucky fellow Mockinpott. Late at night, the funny ASL-AK trio with five eyes and a license plate is up to mischief. Even in the bouldering café you can smile about witty jokes and comedy. The dried flowers of the Wupper Theater contribute to this, as do two music and acting talented chocoholics. POETRY SLAMMER SASCHA THAMM, PHOTO: ANETTE HAMMER FREISTIL FOTOGRAFIE Young culture, music and dance in Wichlinghausen On the green meadow at Wichlinger Bahnhof, the Pina Bausch dance theater is showing an open rehearsal in the open air. Next door in the Wicked Woods skate park, up-and-coming actors, dancers and up-and-coming bands rock the stage. During the summer holidays, the cultural backpack program was about the design and perception of space: During their final presentation, the 10 to 14-year-olds let light and sound, music and dance merge in a glowing fantasy landscape. In the play of the Wuppertal children's and youth theater Krieg, the young actors deal with boundaries, their shifting and overcoming. Young immigrants bring their own experiences with flight and displacement to the table. The sound of the three Wuppertal boys from Darjeeling is also not light-footed, but rather melancholy. Post-Kraut is what the excellent live band calls their uncompromising music. The top act of the evening in the Wicked Woods are Uncle Ho. As one of the most internationally successful indie exports made in Wuppertal, Uncle Ho started as a school combo in the 1990s. Today, they are not only on stage at the age of young, but are also active in promoting young talent. Live in the bowl of the skate hall and as a film in the video container of the Wuppertal media project, the performance of the same name Wicked Woods by Tanzrauschen e.v. Paul White from Tanztheater Wuppertal developed a dance film here together with the local skater, scooter and blader scene. It was shot by the Wuppertal documentary filmmaker Kim Münster. The first season of the mystery series Wishlist flickers across the screen in the container. The filmmakers from Wuppertal were awarded the Grimme Prize and the German Television Prize this year. Director Marc Schießer and author Marcel Becker-Neu earned their first spurs as participants in the Wuppertal media project. Successful young filmmakers always emerge from this. Just a few minutes' walk away, an unusual fusion is celebrating its premiere in the Immanuelskirche: the Royal Street Orchestra and the Kammerphilharmonie Wuppertal combine world music with classical music. New works composed especially for this special encounter can be heard. Before that, Jan Röttger & Band invent their very own mix of soul pop from Wuppertal. And the Ensemble HimmelWasserErde plays music for the gods with vibraphone, violoncello, double bass, Persian flute and didgeridoo.
