Setting Up Pinterest Rich Pins: Complete Pinterest Tutorial for Beginners
The Rich Pins are a great way to really push your Pinterest Pins! Why? Very simple: With the help of the rich pins you verify your pins and Pinterest collects extra information such as the meta description and your blog post heading. In addition, rich pins are better placed higher in the Pinterest search results and you have an increased chance of viral pins. Awesome, isn't it? So, let's get to the rich pins! 🙂
How do you recognize rich pins?
If you've been using Pinterest for a while, you might notice that some Pins have a bold headline with a description, while others only show the description. The pins with a bold headline are called “rich pins” and can only be accessed with a company account. So when you have verified your website and converted it into a business account, you are only a small step away from the "rich pins" for your own pins. If you haven't converted your website into a business account yet, I'll show you how to do it in this post.
Think of it this way: someone searches for “bake cake” on Pinterest. Pinterest then automatically sorts the pins in the search according to the highest relevance for the user. If your pin contains the keyword “baking cake”, then you have a better chance of being ranked further up ... And these are exactly the keywords you can insert with the help of the rich pins.
How to set up the Pinterest Rich Pins on WordPress:
Since at the beginning (to be honest) I also had to try something out for the Rich Pin activation, I will now explain in detail how you can easily activate the Rich Pins for your website. Important: My instructions refer to WordPress! There are actually only two points to consider when setting up on WordPress:
- You have to add the metadata to your own page.
- And have your website validated by Pinterest.
Step 1) Activate the Yoast SEO plugin
I activated my website with the Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress. To do this, download the plugin and go to the “Social” menu under “Facebook”. Now activate the "Open Graph Meta Data" so that Pinterest can read out your meta data.
Step 2) The Rich Pin Validator
Now go to the Rich Pin Validator from Pinterest and paste the link to one of your posts.
Step 3) Apply with the homepage of your website
As soon as the meta data of your blog post has been confirmed, enter the URL of your homepage in the validator and click on "Apply now". The Rich Pins should then be activated within an hour and you will receive a confirmation email from Pinterest.
Actually easy, right? The rich pins are definitely worth it, I guarantee you that. 🙂
