INFOBOX: THE EREF PLAYLISTS AS FURTHER EDUCATIONAL CURRICULUM The eRef ﬁ nds the contents of the medical books, journals and databases of the Thieme Group, an extensive image archive, videos and other services for all medical subjects. The contents are thematically based on diagnoses and medical issues sorted and summarized in so-called “cockpits”. The user can ﬁ nd relevant information, for example on the subject of pneumonia, with one click - from anatomy, diagnostics and di erential diagnoses to therapy, complications and information to guidelines, SOPs and current information from specialist societies. The eRef is available to hospitals, resident doctors and institutions in the health care system in full or focused on certain specialist areas as required. Registered users can save search terms and reading lists in a personal “playlist” in the eRef and share them with others. This is how the curricula were created: Since 2019, structured reading lists have been available for various specialist areas that provide young doctors with all the relevant content for further training. As a digital module, content is always up to date. Finding information at the right time is a challenge. The curricula provide orientation for this: They provide an overview of the knowledge that has to be acquired in the course of further training, help with specific information to find your way in everyday clinical practice, and offer all the relevant content for the specialist examination. The learning objectives of the further training are specified by the respective regional medical association. “The curricula are based on the model training regulations. At the same time, however, they are shaped by the a ro ected people, namely the doctors in further training, and fully geared towards their needs, ”explains Sonja Schmid, Executive Editor Medicine at Thieme, who oversaw the creation of the“ Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery ”curriculum. “Whether beginner or advanced: Everyone can pull out the content that they need in the current situation. This can be preparation for an upcoming operation or a training session for the specialist examination. A specific answer to a current question can also be researched. In this way, young doctors can react quickly if necessary, even if no specialist is available at the moment. ”New curriculum“ Orthopedics and trauma surgery ”The further training curriculum of the medical associations specifies what knowledge young doctors must acquire as part of their specialist training. sen. "Doctors in further training have to react quickly and situationally in everyday clinical practice and at the same time complete an extensive further training catalog - there is hardly any time for research," says Dr. Lisa Wenzel, head of the Young Forum for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery. In order to provide doctors with the best possible support during their training to become specialists, she has therefore advocated a cooperation with Thieme. Together with the provider of specialist medical information and services, the Young Forum Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery has developed a new advanced training curriculum that is part of Thieme's knowledge platform eRef. By bundling the content relevant to further training for orthopedics and trauma surgery within the eRef, a reference work and a structured rotation-related curriculum for the systematic preparation of specialists have been created. The content is prepared in such a way that doctors can quickly ﬁ nd the information they need. “By bundling the content for orthopedics and trauma surgery, we have created a valuable reference work. At the same time, the well-structured curriculum offers orientation for the systematic preparation of specialists, ”says Wenzel. In addition to content from books and magazines as well as SOPs, step-by-step instructions, specialist questions and videos from the Thieme Group, there are also links to other material, such as guidelines and information material from the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery. “We are sure that we can provide colleagues with the best possible support with this format, both for specific questions in everyday working life and for systematic preparation for the specialist examination,” says Wenzel. An overview of the advanced training curricula The curricula are developed in close cooperation with young forums of the specialist societies as well as clinical doctors in advanced training in order to ensure maximum practical relevance. Each curriculum contains short, clear content such as algorithms and step-by-step instructions that enable quick, situational reactions, as well as comprehensive review articles and specialist literature for clear research. In addition, information from the specialist societies and abstracts of guidelines are included so that these do not have to be searched for separately. The curricula are currently available for the fields of radiology, endocrinology, neurology, AINS, orthopedics and trauma surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, and general medicine.
