How long were you allowed to watch TV as a child?
For me it was the famous one Children's hour. So the one hour a day when something was on TV that interested me. Then the normal went again Adult program.
How easy it was for our parents in the past. A screen on which something was only played for a limited period of time that children are beginning to find interesting. A self-regulating medium.
Today we face completely different challenges. There are screens with enticing content everywhere - TV, tablets, smartphones, game consoles, ...

This article is all about that screen time and how you can use it strategically for your family life.
Set screen time
Children love everything that has a screen. If it were up to them, they would play around with it for hours and forget about everything else around them.
I think it is important to let children both watch TV and enable them to use media such as tablets and smartphones. The right Media literacy it can only be obtained if you learn to interact with it in moderation.
As Rule of thumb I think the following times are suitable:
Preschoolers: 30 minutes a day
Primary school children: 60–90 minutes a day
As I said, these times are not set in stone or any maximum standards. As parents, you should think about how much screen time you want your child to have. For us, for example, it fluctuates during the week. At the weekend, the time in front of the screen is sometimes longer.
How to determine the net screen time
In order to use the screen time sensibly for you, it is important to determine beforehand how much of this time you can really use. These Net screen time is really time that you can freely distribute throughout the day.
Do you have certain rituals when your child watches TV or plays the iPad, such as B. after school? Are there any programs that play a role in your daily routine, such as B. the sandman after going to bed?
You can take these times into account when calculating the net screen time.

Opportunities for the strategic use of screen time

- Phone calls - Make appointments, discuss a few important things with the bank, the tax advisor or simply with your buddy. When it is a bit quieter in the house, I can simply concentrate better.
- Important banking matters - there are things that I have to focus on. These are things like when I take care of our bank matters or do the tax return. Here I use the screen time to work on something for 30–60 minutes without any disruption
- Cleaning, cooking, mowing the lawn - When doing some work in and around the household, it can be dangerous if you are interrupted (e.g. if you have a pan with hot fat on the stove), but at least extremely annoying. The miracle weapon screen time can also be used here
You can run as a role model again
As you can see, the strategic use of screen time is very suitable to save your nerves and get some things done. This wonder weapon quickly leads them to do so as panacea to use.
As an adult, you are challenged to be responsible with this Resource to deal with and to the Rules of the game (Total screen time).
