Gas and plumbing technicians ensure that there is always fresh water and sufficient gas in buildings.

They plan and assemble the corresponding systems and take care of the discharge and disposal of exhaust gases and wastewater. They install hot water storage tanks, gas appliances or heat pumps.

Customers are also given advice on energy-saving technologies.

Gas and sanitary technicians install gas and water supply systems in new buildings, when renovating old buildings and in the public gas and water supply network. They cut pipes made of iron, steel, copper and plastic, and make connections by welding, soldering, screwing, plastic welding, gluing or plugging. They lay the pipes in the ground, under plaster or freely, and assemble devices and systems such as B. gas flow heaters, hot water storage tanks, gas stoves, gas heaters, heat pumps for hot water preparation as well as sanitary fixtures and fittings (e.g. bathtubs, showers, toilet bowls, sinks) and systems for the discharge and disposal of exhaust gases and waste water.

Another important task is to check the tightness with a manometer (pressure measuring device) and to isolate the lines against condensation, heat loss and sound transmission.

Further tasks are the setting, maintenance and testing as well as the repair of consumer devices and gas and water systems, e.g. B. the repair of broken pipes and drain blockages and the replacement of defective fittings and seals.

In the area of water installation, gas and sanitary technicians build pressure boosting systems in buildings, irrigation and sprinkling systems for agriculture and horticulture or water treatment systems (e.g. decalcifying, filtering and cleaning systems). They also assemble pumping systems for the water supply from house wells.
