Google will remove companies with old websites from the search results as of March 31, 2021

- After changing the Google search, around a quarter of small and medium-sized companies in the fields of mechanical engineering, plant construction and metal construction can practically no longer be found on the Internet - Affected companies now have to act quickly and convert to smartphone-compatible websites

Hamburg, November 3rd, 2020 - Companies whose websites are not optimized for mobile use will no longer be able to be found via Google search by the end of March 2021 at the latest. For some years now, Google has been pursuing the strategy of showing mobile sites as a preference in the search results. The search engine giant is responding to the trend that more and more Internet users are on the move with mobile devices. Now the old websites should finally disappear from the results.

In the areas of mechanical engineering, metal and plant construction, around 25 percent of companies do not have a mobile-optimized site after an evaluation of around 1,000 randomly selected websites by the online marketing agency PLÜCOM DIGITAL and can therefore no longer be found via Google from March 2021. This not only has consequences for customer acquisition, but potential new employees and apprentices will no longer be able to find these companies via the Internet in the future.

Google announced its 'mobile-first' initiative back in 2016. The aim of the change is to improve the search. In October 2020, John Mueller, Senior Webmaster Analyst at Google, stated that web pages built for desktop only will be ignored from March 2021: “Everything you want indexed has to be on the mobile site. And the last date that we agreed on is March 2021, ”said Mueller.

Medium-sized companies with outdated websites therefore urgently need to set up new websites in order not to lose potential customers and employees to competitors who have already switched to the new technology.

“For a new website, professional providers with good project management can expect a production time of two to three months. Anyone who wants to be able to continue to be found seamlessly on the Internet via Google must commission a service provider with the implementation by mid-December 2020 at the latest, "says Frank Plümer, Managing Director of PLÜCOM DIGITAL.

With a view to the March date, according to Plümers, it is advisable to rely on providers who offer all services such as project management, programming, text and photo production, logo design, search engine optimization and website maintenance from a single source, and friction losses are preprogrammed.

It should also be noted that new websites are not immediately identified via the Google search. If you want to appear on the first page of Google, you have to revise the website in good time so that Google has enough time to analyze the new page.
